NATURAL HERITAGE

The destruction of chemical plants, burning of fuel storages and release of huge quantities of nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, has seriously depleted the ozone layer over Europe. The depletion of the ozone layer can lead to a regional and global environmental disaster, which is best illustrated by satellite images of stratosphere

The following national parks and protected natural resources have been under attack: - Fruska Gora;- Kopaonik; -Tara; -Sar planina; -Grmija; -Prokletije; -Gazimestan; -Deliblat dunes; -Obedska bara; -Koviljski rit; -Hunting grounds "Lipovica"; -Sombor forests; -Mountain Maljen.

The fires have destroyed more than 250 hectares of forest. The spilling of oil deviates and chemical agents have poisoned the rivers, canals, underground waters and several thousand hectares of fertile land. Rare flora and fauna have been destroyed or threatened as well as their habitats; environmental balance has been disrupted and long - term damage inflicted on them, some of which are irreversible.
